Research peptide customs & import guide
A plain-English guide to what happens between dispatch and your door: tracking stages, import tax, customs holds and the paperwork that helps. For laboratory research orders only; not legal advice.
Reading this research reference
The information below concerns the research subject, not proof of the identity or performance of a supplied material. Check the original sources and your laboratory’s requirements; product documentation must be assessed separately for the exact batch.
The journey of a tracked parcel
Every order ships from one of our three dispatch hubs (Germany, the USA or China) with a tracking number. Tracking usually moves through these stages: label created, accepted by the carrier, in transit internationally, arrived in the destination country, customs processing, handed to the local courier, and delivered.
Our delivery window, 5–18 business days, starts when tracking becomes active, not on the order date. Weekends and public holidays in either country don't count as business days.
Import VAT and duty
Parcels entering a country from outside its customs area can attract import VAT and, in some cases, customs duty. The UK, EU member states, the USA and most other countries each set their own thresholds and rates.
When tax is due, the local courier normally asks the recipient to pay it before delivery, often by text or email with a payment link. Always confirm such a request through the courier's official website, since fake "customs fee" texts are a common scam.
Why parcels are held
Customs officers can open and inspect any international parcel. Common reasons for a hold are random checks, a missing or unclear description, a declared value that needs confirming, or rules in the destination country that apply to the product type.
A hold isn't unusual, and most are cleared once the recipient answers any questions. If tracking shows "held" or "awaiting information" for several days, check your post, email and phone for a notice from customs or the courier.
Your responsibilities as the importer
The person receiving a parcel is generally treated as the importer, so it's their job to know whether a product may be imported into their country. Rules for research compounds differ widely: some countries restrict particular substances, and some treat certain peptides as medicines that need a licence.
Check your national customs authority's guidance before ordering: HMRC and Border Force in the UK, U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the USA, or your EU country's customs service. Our shipping policy explains how we handle parcels that are refused or not delivered.
Practical tips
- Use a full address with a phone number and email, so the courier can reach you.
- Track your parcel on the carrier's own website once the tracking number is active.
- Keep your order confirmation; customs may ask what the parcel contains and what it cost.
- Only reply to customs or courier messages through their official websites.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a research peptide parcel take to arrive?+
Our approved window is 5–18 business days from the moment tracking becomes active. Customs inspection is the most common reason a parcel sits near the end of that window.
Will I have to pay import tax or duty?+
That depends on your country's rules and the declared value. Many countries charge VAT or import duty on parcels from outside their customs area, collected by the courier before delivery.
What happens if customs hold my parcel?+
The courier or customs office usually contacts the recipient by letter, text or email. Reply promptly with the information they ask for; unanswered holds are often returned or destroyed after a set period.
Is this guide legal advice?+
No. Import rules differ by country and change over time. Check your national customs authority's website, or ask a qualified adviser, before ordering.
